He was named after Leonid Brezhnev who led the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1982
Much like the Brazilian fox Luiz he may be Russian but he looks Soviet which is no surprise since the Russian faction is almost run like the Soviet Union but is far less extreme, in this case Leonid has red fur with a yellow tinge to it with a yellow underbelly and face, his yellow tinge almost is said to look gold. In his first appearance he is a normal fox but in his return in the Anthro Saga he wears a white shirt, a black tie, black trousers and a black suit jacket in Argentina but in the Bunker and in battle he replaces his jacket with a grey marshall jacket.
Unlike Viktoria Leonid is much more serious and cynical often prone to having a bad temper. He is every bit the traditionalist not believing in the paranormal, compared to his wife as well as the Bosnian general Dragutin with Miroslav and the Venezuelan general Guillermo with Hugo he is much more stricter on his daughter often disapproving of her clothing choice but each time he has asked her to at least wear a skirt Natalya has said no or the Russian equivalent Niet however he does not wish to force her to increase her clothing choice and he never does.
His arrogance often puts a great strain on his relations with fellow Russian generals Vladimir, Sergei, Mikhail and Dmitri however he is not as conniving or power hungry as Scar is. It is also said by the other generals as well as his wife and daughter that it is very, very rare to see him smile, since Afghanistan was an ally of the Soviet Union it is no surprise that he recognizes Hafizullah from Afghanistan. Despite the fact Leonid does not believe in the paranormal he enjoys the stories Hafizullah tells.
Much like the Pakistani dog Zia Leonid takes offense very, very easily but he can also be quite favoritistic being trusting towards the Fox Junta and their allies and being very wary of Fox and his family however he refuses to use torture on allies believing "torture is for enemies and enemies only", he is also very, very vigilant some even say as vigilant as the Estonian general Arnold. His favouritism also comes in as he will defend his wife and daughter as well as other female Slavic animals most of them being Russian or around the Russian area. Nonetheless he is friendly with allies and eventually enemies and though like the Mexican general Heriberto and the Bolivian general Hugo he shows no sympathy for the Junta babies he eventually gets to like them, though he is firm on his daughter he does love his wife and daughter.
